So now I've moved on to the largest member of the Fairy Kikaku 1/700 Dunkirk Set (1) kit. Originally it was meant to represent HMS Grive but I chose to render it as the yacht Narcissus. In real life that was its original name.
Here is the ship with its major pieces in place. I cut off the bulwarks on the bridge wings and the forward part of the boat's superstructure. The kit versions would've been 1.4m or so thick in 1:1 scale. Then I discovered that the bridge wings were of unequal length. Needless to say, that did not amuse me.
Once again I removed blocks of resin under the decks which were meant to represent deck support posts. This photo shows the masts and bowsprit in place. I made an ambitious attempt to add small lengths of 0.3mm brass rod for deck support posts. There are 14 of them in total. The funnel has been attached along with a curved section of replacement bulwark.
...And then I had the crazy idea to add ratlines. Here are the ones for the forward mast. The ones for the aft mast will be a more complicated affair. I will attach the aft superstructure piece, fill its joint with its neighbouring piece with putty, let that dry, sand it, prime it with Mr. Surfacer 1000, and the cut and bend the photoetch ratlines to fit. Once they've been primed separately I will give them a wash of paint and attach them.
