Early on Thursday afternoon my co-worker wasn't looking too hot. She actually looked fairly run down. At one point she dug up the thermometer we have stashed in the office and took her temperature. It was 38C. So, she got our office manager to drive her to a nearby hospital as her regular doctor has Thursdays off. That started a quick scramble to deal with schedule changes. I was able to cover her mid-afternoon class with the two preschool boys. It took a bit but we managed to contact her evening class student. That student asked if she could cancel her lesson and reschedule. My students for my last class typically don't show up. We got a hold of them and they both reported they'd be unable to come in. So that allowed me to leave at 8pm.
I certainly needed that bit of time off because I was asked to cover for my co-worker's Friday morning baby class. She was going to visit her doctor in the morning. So that necessitated an earlier than usual Friday morning departure on my part.
On Friday afternoon the latest update came in. She was told she needed to be hospitalized. Talk about tossing a spanner in the works. Thus I was going to be teaching her Saturday classes...and the first class is at 10am. I quickly went online and booked a hotel room in Yamagata city. Drving back to Yonezawa on Friday night and then driving back on Saturday morning in time to prepare for a morning class was hardly a heartwarming proposition and so much less so when it's snowing as it was then.
Needless to say when I got back home on Saturday night I was pretty tired. I had a drinking party with my Yonezawa co-workers scheduled for that night and luckily I got a second wind and was thus able to unwind and relax....
